Buyer’s Guide

Age recommendations
We offer age recommendations and guidelines with all of our products to help you the customer choose your items wisely and safely.

Weight and Height restrictions
Should our equipment have any height or weight restrictions you will find these in the detailed description along with the age recommendations below the items image.

Safety Area
If you are unsure of space and layout for climbing frames etc, we have shown diagrams along with the product that show the safety radius recommended and the dimensions of the frames or modules themselves

Climbing frames
These are usually made from a treated timber or steel. Both of these forms of material are long lasting and sturdy. But a timber frame is a more permanent addition to your garden as they tend to be larger and have to be fixed in one place.

Our climbing frames come with modules so that your frame can grow with your child. You can go from a simple frame to a complicated structure, as well as extra modules that can attach there are also optional accessories that help you to create a more bespoke frame, specifically built for your child’s development.

Be aware that when purchasing a frame and modules that a safety area is recommended with each item for safe mounting and dismounting.

Where possible we have tried to help you with our related items that you will find down the right hand side of the screen, these are items that we recommend compliment your choices.

Slides
These are included in our climbing frames and dimensions are given in the information, there is the ability to choose colour etc and we offer guidance as to weight and height restrictions should you require them.

Swings
There are a multiple option of swing seats and accessories available and the opportunity to either choose a bespoke system or a kit where the choices are made for you, there are some swings attached to frames but others you can purchase with a module. These modules can also vary and be adapted with the accessories should you require them.

Colour options
All colour options given within the details or in the drop down menus are the only colours available and other colours can not be made to request.

Within our description we try to include as much information and advice as we can so that you, the customer, are able to make an informed decision. But should you not find the information that you require please feel free to contact us directly and we shall do our best to advise you.

Safety Guide

OutdoorPlayWorld’s safety guide is aimed at providing answers to some safety issues and recommendations that come connected with buying an outdoor toy, so that your children can enjoy their new out door toy and not risk injury.

Introduction

• All of our outdoor toys and equipment have age range recommendations outlining which items are best for your children as they grow.

• The climbing frames all have a safety area recommendation attached, ensuring that an area is allocated for the safe mounting and dismounting of at least 2m, please note that this is not to be a concrete based area.

• We recommend adult supervision at all times when children are playing with outdoor toys/climbing frames etc.

• Where indicated our outdoor equipment exceeds the BS EN71 British and European Safety of Toys Standards (in domestic use).

Trampolines

• Both OutdoorPlayWorld and the RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) recommend that trampolines are used by children 6 years and over. Should children between 2 years and 6 years use the trampoline it should be under the constant supervision of an adult only.

• We recommend that the ideal place to put a trampoline is a section of soft and even grassy ground in your garden, making sure that all of the legs of the trampoline are in contact with the ground.

• The safety net enclosure that surrounds the trampoline is there so that if an accident does happen then that person will not fall over the edge.

• We recommend that you remove the ladder to the trampoline so that younger children cannot access it alone and without supervision.

• If placing your trampoline indoors you may need to invest in rubber floor guards to protect your floor and your trampoline leg bases. If it’s a hard floor then it’s recommended that you provide a padded area around the trampoline or fit a safety enclosure. It is also essential to check you have sufficient ceiling height when placing a trampoline indoors.

• Please inspect the trampoline before each use (including the frame and springs)

• Do not allow more than one person on the trampoline at one time

• Do not jump from the trampoline always climb on and off

• Do not allow children to attempt and dangerous moves or stunts

• Do not use the trampoline when ill, tired, under the influence of alcohol, or taking any medication

• Read the manufacturers instruction before using the trampoline

Climbing Frames

• If a climbing frame is maintained and looked after then it is possible for it to last many years and grow with your children.

• It is not recommended that you put your climbing frame on a concrete surface or any other hard floor.

• It is recommended that you put your climbing frame on a grass surface, however as grass can become damaged there is a wide range of safety flooring available.

• Safety flooring can mark out the perimeter of the climbing frame and can offer extra protection for you children.

• A slide should always be used feet first and not head first; it should also never run on the slide up/down or climb up the slide.

• Children playing on a slide should always check that the bottom is clear before they make their decent and should move away quickly once they have reached the bottom.

• Children should always have shoes on when playing with outdoor equipment and should not be barefoot.

• A child should never be left in a swing and safety harnesses should be used if provided.

• If it is a baby in the swing you should limit the number of times it is swung, we recommend no more than 30 minutes intervals, as it can make babies dizzy. Also do not allow older children to push the baby in its swing.

• You should always follow the manufacturers age and weight specifications and assembly directions exactly

• To prevent falls and accidents you should stop using a traditional swing if your child attempts to climb off, and stop using a cradle swing when your baby can roll over or push up on their hands and knees.

Sandpits

• A badly maintained sandpit can cause problems to a child’s health.

• Only pure beach sand should be used for children’s sandpits, be aware to read the contents as some sand is mixed with other things such as marble dust.

• A sandpit should be put on a shady area with good drainage, but a good tip is if the area is free from weed etc then it is ideal for the sandpit as the weeds won’t come up through the sand.

• Sandpits should not be placed beneath trees due to the dead leaves, twigs, rotten fruits and bird droppings.

Airboards

• Make sure that the correct safety equipment is worn as the boards can travel at high speeds.

• Always have an adult supervising the use of an airboard.

• As an airboard is an inflatable item be aware of what you are steering it over as tears and holes can occur.

• As you ride an airboard on your front with your head leading the way, it is imperative that you wear a helmet.

Maintenance

Maintenance is a basic process and will not take long to do, but will keep your outdoor equipment safe and in a good condition. Below is an easy to use checklist that you should in theory go through at least twice a year in the spring and autumn. If your outdoor equipment is regularly used we advise checking it for damage more regularly.

1. Check the tightness of all of your fixings

2. Rope will start to decay after one year so check them along with their attachments for ware and tear

3. Make sure that the timber is free from splinters and/or damage.

4. Check the frame work for cracks, there will be natural wear and tare over time but use your judgement and if you are unsure about the safety of your climbing frame contact your supplier and don’t let anyone use it.

5. Check your frame if it is under a tree as tree sap can fall and cause a slippery surface.

6.We recommend a trampoline cover to protect the surface of your trampoline from such things as birds mess and leaves falling on it (leaves can discolour your trampoline’s surface). Make sure to oil your trampoline’s springs.
